Features and options
Easy peelPeel — the seal opens by peeling the film away from its base without scissors. Easy peel alone does not mean the pack can be reclosed.
High puncture resistanceIncreased resistance to punctures and mechanical damage. Material thickness and structure are selected for the product’s shape.
Sterilisation — up to 134 °CHigh-temperature treatment of the packed product to destroy microorganisms, including spores. The process must suit both the product and the packaging material.
PasteurisationControlled heating of the packed product to reduce microorganisms. Temperature and duration are selected for the product and its packaging.

What to consider when selecting a material
For rigid film, consider formed-tray geometry and depth and compatibility with the lidding film. State any freezing, heating or modified-atmosphere requirements. Processing conditions and easy peel must be checked for the selected material structure.
Selection questions
How does rigid film differ from flexible film?
Rigid film is used to form a stiffer pack base. Select the required stiffness and geometry for the product and forming equipment.
How is the lidding film selected?
The lidding film must seal to the formed base material. Check the material pair against its specifications and through a packaging trial.
Which pack-format details are needed?
Provide the cavity’s length, width and depth, product weight and desired base appearance. Also provide the line model and tooling details.
Can the material be changed without a forming trial?
The change needs verification. A different material may require different heating, forming and sealing settings.
How are heating or freezing requirements considered?
State these requirements before choosing the structure. Check the particular film’s intended use and permitted conditions in its specification.
