PACKAGING MATERIALS
Ancillary materials
Trays, backing boards and interleaving films serve different purposes: forming a packaging base, supporting the product or separating slices after cutting. Material and format are selected for the product, equipment and conditions of use. Each page describes the application and available properties.

Trays
Trays for meat, vegetables, salads, prepared foods and convenience products. Shape and material are selected to suit the packaging process.

Backing boards
A base for presenting and supporting the product. Format and compatibility are selected for your packaging technology.

Interleaver
Materials for separating product slices. Format and properties are selected for the slicing and stacking process.
Ancillary materials are part of the packaging system
Tray and lidding film
Tray sealing requires compatibility between the tray material, lidding film and machine mould. Consider geometry, depth and heat-treatment conditions.
Backing boards and interleaving films
A backing board supports the packed product; interleaving film separates slices. Board stiffness and format matter, while interleaving film must suit the slicing and stacking process.
What to include in your enquiry
Specify the product, required size and packaging type. For an automatic line, include the machine model and material operating parameters. State any heating or freezing requirements separately.
Selection questions
How do trays, backing boards and interleavers differ?
A tray forms a container, a backing board provides a base, and an interleaver separates slices. These materials serve different purposes in packaging.
How is a tray matched to its lidding film?
Check the tray material, film sealing layer and equipment settings. Trial the material pair together.
Does selection depend on the equipment model?
Yes. Format, feeding and machine capabilities matter in an automatic process. The material name alone does not establish compatibility.
Which dimensions should I provide?
Provide product dimensions and the required base or tray format. For interleavers, slice size and machine-feeding format also matter.
Is every material suitable for heating or freezing?
No. Check these requirements against the particular item’s specification. Suitability for one use does not establish suitability for another.
